LEWDOWN CC have been successful in their application to Awards for All.
The award is being used to compliment the club's extensive community links programme which already includes nine local Primary Schools and Okehampton College.
ECB qualified coaches are delivering cricket skills to children during curriculum time and as 'after school activities'. Engaging with the children at school has stimulated their interest, as a large number have become new members of Lewdown CC; attending Friday evening coaching sessions at the club and enjoying competitive and friendly matches.
Club chairman 'Charlie Hughes added 'it was wonderful to see more than 50 children running around the cricket field, learning new skills and having fun. The children are the future of our club which is why we invest time and money into training for our coaches.'
Club members and volunteers will continue to work towards ECB CA Coaching Awards at Levels 1 and 2, with particular emphasis placed on skills workshop for senior coaches in the club. Child Protection courses, equity courses and first aid courses are also now on offer to Club members. The Awards for All grant is also being used to purchase extensive coaching and training equipment and aids as well as a new high quality netting system for the outdoor nets.
