FIFTY years on, one founder member of Holsworthy Rotary Club recently received a special commendation for his strong support.
Chartered in 1971, Holsworthy Rotary Club recently celebrated its 50-year existence with its first face-to-face meeting since March 2020. Although somewhat smaller in number than at the time of its inception, the club is active in supporting the local community and a number of international projects such the End Polio Now campaign.
Those attending were delighted to be able to meet and greet each other after a year and a half of Zoom meetings.
Adding to the occasion was the recognition of the one remaining founder member still in the club. Arthur Rowland has uninterrupted membership of the club since it received its charter in 1971. He has held a number of positions during his membership including being president and attendance officer.
A strong supporter of Rotary activities and in recognition of his long-standing membership of Rotary, he has been awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship for his service to the club and the local community. Arthur is a retired local auctioneer and has seen many changes in Rotary and the locality over the years. For example, Rotary has changed from an all-male membership to include lady members and the sad fact that many of the founder members had businesses in the town and local area which have now closed and not been replaced.
The award was presented by president Gareth Smith and Arthur was duly congratulated by all present.
Holsworthy Rotary Club meet regularly on Monday lunchtimes at the Golf Club (in normal times) and welcomes new members.
