THE Whitstone traditional carol evening was held in St Anne’s Hall on December 2.
As chairperson for the event, Barry Bryne led prayers and supplied interesting, thoughtful readings and anecdotes. An orchestra made up of local musicians playing a wide variety of instruments provided music for the community singing, in addition to some very enjoyable performances in between.
With their distinctive sound from a mix of harp, bassoon, concertina, clarinet, fiddle and guitar, the group intriguingly called ‘Cannon Fodder’ treated the audience to several lovely traditional west country tunes, mostly on a Christmas theme, and together with the piano, both folk fiddle and classical violin were on the programme.
The audience were in fine voice and welcomed the tea and mince pies to round off a very pleasant evening.
