More than £2,000 was presented to charitable causes following an auction by Camelford Conservative Club, hoping to aid the charitable work done by these organisation.
Headway Cornwall is an independent charity which provides support to individuals who are living with an acquired brain injury (ABI), this can range from a traumatic head injury to a stroke, running their Day Service, every Tuesday at Redruth Community Centre; providing support, activities, and the opportunity to socialise.
Affiliated with Headway UK, the organisation relies primarily on charitable donations to keep running and following a charity auction held by Camelford Conservative Club, the group has received more than £1,000 to keep their work going. A spokesperson for the group said: “In years gone by, we used to receive funding from Cornwall Council in order to operate two day centres across Cornwall, however, the funding stopped years ago, so we rely on a small fee to attend our centre and lots and lots of fundraising activities.
“It is always especially exciting when groups like Camelford Conservative Club choose Headway Cornwall as a beneficiary as it means we can put any funding we receive to good use. We are looking at purchasing some additional physical activities such as indoor bowling, which is very good for maintaining and developing motor skills in the hands, wrists, and arms. Our group are also keen enthusiasts of quiz and board games which is useful for things like memory, pattern recognition, speech, and reasoning as well as being good fun!”
Headway weren’t the only group to receive a cheque from the auction however, a further £1,050 was given to Cancer Research UK to further fund their lifesaving efforts in Cornwall and across the country.
