KIVELLS antiques and collectors auction held on Tuesday, February 20, at Holsworthy auction room and online, saw a glimmer of hope that furniture values are on the up.
An Irish leather button back wing armchair with superb carved legs easily outstripped the pre sale guide to sell at £1,400.
A stylish in-vogue Danish teak dining table and six chairs which, despite needing attention, sold well beyond expectations at £620.
A pine scumbled dresser also sold at £620, pine settles at £250 and £160, an oak carved desk for £260, Chinese mahogany chair for £249, a pair of laboratory high stools at £140 and a set of nine filing drawers at £115 were among the many excellent prices achieved.
Sixty lots of jewellery and watches included an 18 carat gold and diamond ring selling at £160, a 14k gold necklace for £140, 9ct gold and seed pearl bracelet for £110, 9ct gold locket at £65, a Longines wristwatch for £90 and various watches for spares at £95.
Silver and plate items included a watch stand at £125, hip flask at £50, Christening mugs at £90 and £50, a table bell for £90 and Community plated cutlery at £95.
In a good China section a pair of Chinese plates sold at £230, a single at £75, a pair of blue and white tureens at £120, a pair of dragon vases at £85 and a selection of Alan Young figures totaling £460.
Other items included a tinplate Tri-ang child’s pedal car selling at £220, corn bin at £135, copper boiler for £55, 1759 house design booklet for £125, an oil lamp for £50 and a book press at £110.
