AT last, after nine weeks, Camelford Ladies played a game. Unfortunately for the hosts, it didn't go their way and they lost 5-0 to Callington in the Cornwall League.
A good game but Camelford were lacking match fitness, although there were some positives to take into next week's match.
Callington went into this game without influential defender Sian Jonas and quick winger Candy Caplin, but still proved to be too strong for Camelford.
With lots of early possession, Callington made a bright start, with Sam May going close to opening the scoring and Katy Sheffield striking the outside the post. The Cally pressure soon told when midfielder Micha Carroll drove a 25 yard effort over the 'keeper and into the far corner. Sheffield was next to get in on the act with a powerful low strike which squirmed under the 'keeper 2-0 at half time.
Camelford did rally in the second half with some attacking moves out wide and their most notable chances came when their striker twice went through one-on-one with 'keeper Sara Rowe, who bravely slid out to clear the danger.
However, it wasn't long before Callington increased their lead, with May weaving past three defenders on the edge of the box to calmly slot home from 12 yards. Not to be outdone, fellow strike partner Sheffield scored two further goals in quick succession to complete her hat-trick.
St Breward won 6-1 at home to Hayle with Tamsin Keat doing the damage with a four-goal haul, while Charlotte Hobbs added a brace. The visitors' reply was an own goal.
Sarah Badham (Bude) is in the Cornwall squad to meet Devon at Wadebridge next Tuesday (March 24).
