THE Food Assembly in Bude is a finalist in the 'Best Food Initiative' it was announced at the BBC Food Awards.
With well over 400 members in Bude and the surrounding area, The Bude for Food Assembly aims to change food culture by enabling people to buy directly off farmers and local food-makers.
Every week Food Assembly customers in Bude can order food online from their local assembly before picking it up at a weekly pop-up market. All the food comes from within 20 miles of the area.
Each assembly creates paid work for a local host. The Bude for Food Assembly is hosted by food-obsessed producer Paul Sousek, who runs his sustainable, organic farm entirely on renewable energy with near zero use of fossil fuels. His farm, Cottage Farm Organics, has seen Paul and his wife win several sustainability awards and a runner-up spot as BBC Farmer of the Year.
Other producers who supply the Bude Food Assembly include Elmar Vegetables, Helsett Organic Dairy and Sweet P Confectionery, the chocolate makers. A Bude-based microbrewery offers its Bude-inspired beers.
