ARTIST Shan Miller took her life-sized paintings to Holsworthy Livestock Market on Wednesday, March 14.

Torrington-based Shan, who paints in the style of the Old Masters Era, dotted her pieces of work, ranging from 3ft to 7ft in size, around the site, in the café and offices.

In 2001, following the foot and mouth outbreak, Shan was commissioned by the NFU to produce some farming portraits to help lift spirits and get people back into the farming community.

Shan said the event at the market went very well, and a part of the proceeds from sales of the paintings will go to Cancer Relief, the charity chosen by the market organisers.

“I’ve had many compliments from people, not just the farmers, but the staff who want to see them there.”

Shan hopes to return to the market in May for the rare breeds sale, but is keen to continue working with Kivells.

“They do a lot of different things to help charities. It’s something that I’d like to get actively involved in. Anything I can do to raise money through my paintings, I will.

“It’s getting artwork out in the public eye. It’s just great. I’m hoping that Holsworthy will be a permanent place.”
