From Hilary Marshall:
THE proposed location for the new cattle market and
agri-business park in Holsworthy, is presently Arscott
Community Woodland.
Community woodlands were established for the benefit of
people, wildlife and, by locking up carbon, the wider
environment. Surely there should be a presumption
against building development on publicly-funded wildlife
havens.
I first visited the site with the Holsworthy Walk and
Talk group and have been back to enjoy the wildlife —
such as sedge warblers singing, dragonflies hatching at
the pond, redpoll and many other birds feeding in the
planted trees which are beginning to bear fruit and seeds,
snipe and meadow pipits on the grassland area, to name
but a few.
I urge anyone else who is concerned about the
destruction of this habitat to make their views known.
There is a meeting in the Memorial Hall on December 1
from 6pm to 9pm, when an update on the proposals will
be presented.
Beaworthy.
