AROUND 300 people got the chance to try a range of exciting activities and watch demonstrations at an event in Launceston last weekend.
Arranged by North Cornwall District Council and local company M-Mad, the event allowed people, regardless of their age or ability, to try new activities ranging from football to climbing to arts.
A number of local activity providers held demonstrations and have a go sessions throughout the day, and all were well attended despite the changeable weather.
Geoff Samuels, Sport Development Officer for NCDC, said: "One of the main reasons the event was so successful is the great way that the community pitched in and got involved. Local sports clubs and activity organisers, the council's play rangers and many more all came along and helped provide the fantastic amount of different activities that were on offer throughout the day. The day was filled with smiling faces as people experienced activities for the first time.
"The event was held at the Phoenix Leisure Centre, and both the centre and Coronation park were jam packed with things going on. I'd like to thank the staff at the Phoenix for working tirelessly throughout the day and helping make things run smoothly."
Gareth Dix, NCDC Leisure Officer, added: "Our work is all about promoting healthy lifestyles and encouraging all North Cornwall residents to get involved in new or different leisure activities. We aim to help people get active in a way that suits them, regardless of any barriers they may face.
"I am pleased that the day was so well attended and that so many people got a taste for the variety of activities available here in North Cornwall."
The event was funded by a grant obtained by NCDC from a central government scheme to encourage people to get active and lead healthy lifestyles
