SEVEN businesses in the Post area have been shortlisted for the second round of voting for the 2017 Food Reader Awards.

The Food Reader Awards are the South West’s most prestigious foodie awards and are separated into 13 categories with ten nominees in each.

Last year’s ‘Best Chef’ winner — Steve Pidgeon from the Arundell Arms in Lifton — will battle it out with the likes of TV stars Rick Stein and Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall in the ‘Local Food Hero’ award, but hasn’t been nominated for the best chef award this year.

The Arundell Arms has also made the final ten in the ‘Best Foodie Hotel’ category, and will aim to improve on last year’s performance where they made the top three before losing out to Watergate Bay Hotel.

The Horn of Plenty in Gulworthy has also been put forward for the best foodie hotel while they’ve also been nominated for the ‘Best Wine List’.

Launceston’s representative is Philip Warren Butchers, who has again been nominated for the ‘Best Independent Food Retailer’ while the Bude-based North Coast Wine Company will compete against them.

There has also been plenty of representation on the North Cornwall coastline.

Trebarwith pub — The Mill House — has made the final ten of the ‘Best Foodie Pub’ while Boscastle Farm Shop is also shortlisted in the farm shop category.

Voting for the secound round of the awards closes on Wednesday, January 4.
