THE youth centre in Holsworthy could be re-opened after Easter.
The centre was closed last October by Devon County Council.
But an area board spearheaded by Conservative county councillor Barry Parsons and Holsworthy mayor John Allen, under the umbrella of the Marketing Coastal Towns Initiative, led the campaign to re-open it.
At a meeting of the town council last week, Cllr Allen said he and Cllr Parsons had attended a 'very positive' meeting with the Community Action Through Sport (CATS) committee, Holsworthy Property Trust and two PCSOs.
Cllr Allen said: "We feel like we can set a date for the opening, which will be after Easter. We are planning to do it the week commencing April 20."
However, he said there was 'still work to be done' first, such as agreeing the terms of the lease.
A Statement of Community Interest application was approved by Devon County Council officers, which means there is £10,000 for the youth centre at Sanders Lane.
Cllr Allen said some of the money would go towards fixing a drain problem there.
He added: "We have got £10,000, which will be enough for the short-term. There will be a three-month trial."
He indicated that during the three-month trial they would be doing 'much more in-depth' before making another bid.
"It's not going to be easy. I can only hope we can get a good bid in to get some money," Cllr Allen said.
During the initial three months, CATS will be co-ordinating youth provision.
