THE RSPCA is asking people to contact the charity if they see a wallaby after the marsupial was spotted earlier this week.
The animal welfare charity was called by a member of the public who had spotted the him roaming near South Petherwin, Launceston, during the evening on Monday (May 8).
RSPCA animal collection officer Peter Ferris rushed to the scene and was given a helping hand from a local resident as he tried to trap the wallaby, but unfortunately the officer was outwitted by the elusive animal.
Peter said: “He’d made his way into a garden but as we tried to carefully corral him with pallets and plywood he’d already come up with an escape plan and dashed through a small gap.
“He appears to be well and uninjured but no one has been able to get close enough to be sure so we’d encourage anyone who spots him to contact us.
“When I got the call about the wallaby I thought it was unusual but not impossible as I’ve rescued one before from an industrial estate in Plymouth. We believe he has escaped from somewhere and would also be keen to hear from anyone who may be missing a wallaby.”
Anyone who knows where the wallaby may have come from should contact the RSPCA inspector line on 0300 123 8018.
