AN ASHWATER couple have been left heartbroken after their beloved Lakeland Terrier was left for dead on the road outside their home.
Gina Bower and Glen Stone are appealing for information as they believe their two-year-old dog, Harvey, was strangled outside their home on the road between Sandymoor Cross and Oak Cottage Cross, on Friday, November 1.
Glen was working in the barn when he heard Harvey barking, followed by the 'terrific screams' of a lady.
Gina said: "Harvey always let us know if someone was there, he was a brilliant house dog."
When Glen and Gina went out to see what had happened, a car drove past the house and slowed down.
Gina continued: "In his lights Glen could see Harvey laid in the road. The car went past the dog, but did not stop. Any decent person would have. We now believe that the car owner was responsible for the death of Harvey and had come back up the road to see if he was dead or not."
The couple believe Harvey was enticed into the road and it was made to look like he had been hit by a car. Gina said: "Harvey would not go into the road. If he was guilty of anything, it was being too friendly."
Unfortunately, Harvey died on the way to the vet. Gina and Glen have reported the offence to the police and are now appealing for information.
If you have information contact police on 101, quoting log reference number 852 of November 1.
