BUDE-STRATTON Town Council has offered a new resident to the area the chance to see if a croquet club is something the town wants.

At the meeting of the recreation committee at the Parkhouse Centre on Thursday, April 14, chairman Cllr Frank Partridge explained the reason behind why he had asked the item to be added to the agenda — one which had left committee members puzzled.

He said: “A man called Mr Trump has recently moved to the Bude area and is an established croquet player. He came to speak to me as he wasn’t sure of how to go about setting a croquet club up, or in fact if it was something that would receive much interest in the town.

“I told him that I would speak about it on the committee and try and give the potential club some publicity. It would be another form of activity in the area to perhaps a different range of people.

“I would like to say to be able to report back to Mr Trump that could perhaps run a taster session on the Castle lawn as long as he can provide all the equipment and liaise with the council to select a suitable date.

“I would like to offer this taster session free of charge to help this one off formation of a club.”

All councillors voted in favour.
