MEMBERS of Devon and Cornwall Against the Badger Cull took to the street and beach last weekend, protesting in Launceston and Bude.
They gathered outside Launceston Castle late morning on Saturday, October 8, with banners and placards, and later moved to a beach in Bude, spelling out their message in rocks.
The Post has previously reported on badger control methods, with Defra announcing at the end of August seven additional licences covering parts of Herefordshire, Gloucestershire, Cornwall, Devon and Dorset. Operations in these areas are being carried out under four year licences, which allow culling to take place every year between June 1 and January 31.
In Launceston, member of Cornwall Against the Badger Cull, Jacqui Rukin, said outside the Castle they received support from passing motorists.
She said: “There may have been only a few of us but we got a lot of passing support — they waved and shouted positive things to us, and people came and talked to us. There are always people that don’t agree with our position and make that quite obvious.
“At Bude there were quite a number of people on the beach and people were interested and came to talk — it’s about raising awareness and keeping it on the agenda really. And hopefully there will be people out there who choose to get involved in the future.”
