ONE more thing has been ticked off Becky Franklin’s bucket list after she completed the London Marathon on Sunday.

Becky, from Trebarwith, completed the race in an impressive time of 5:07:02, bearing in mind she only began training after receiving her ballot place, having never really run before.

She said the day was an emotional one and something she had never expected: “Lots of people have said that because it was the hottest London Marathon on record it was really tough, but I actually found it ok. I’ve never been athletic or particularly into sport, I only joined up as it was on my bucket list. I started training for the marathon after I received my ballot place so I was really pleased with my time of five hours!”

Becky said she thinks the marathon was made easier for her because of where she lives. She said: “I think it is because Cornwall is so hilly, London being flat seemed fairly easy in comparison, but I took it steady and I have to say it was the crowds that really push you through.

“People told me this beforehand but I didn’t believe them until I was actually there — I was so emotional on the day with the crowds cheering us on, it was fantastic and I had a really good time.”

But Becky doesn’t have time to rest on her laurels, as she will be taking on a 100-mile walk this weekend with the Cornwall Young Farmers.

Becky (right) is a member of the Camelford YFC and will be joining her fellow members to complete ‘Hadrian’s Wall’ in aid of the Cornwall Birth and Baby Appeal.

The walk begins on Sunday morning and will see the group walk from Newcastle to Blackpool.
