Widemouth Task Force, has praised the work of all involved in another successful year, as 2016 comes to a close.
In total, 13 organised cleans have taken place, which have contributed to the collection of 309 bags — equaling to 1920kg — of litter, debris and other unwanted rubbish on Widemouth’s beaches, picked up by 358 dedicated volunteers.
These statistics exclude the Dawn til Dusk beach clean, which took place during the summer in an aim to rid Bude’s beaches of litter and waste.
Additionally, two grey seal pups were rescued in September, with nine being rescued last season, and 80 trees were used in last January’s dune restoration project.
It has also been reported that the beach waste removed on organised cleans, until March 2017, will now be very nearly 100% recycled.
There will be a Widemouth Christmas tree sand dune restoration on January 7 from 9.30am to 12pm. Those wanting to take part are advised to bring a spade to help place your tree and join in keeping Widemouth looking good.
