THE Brown Willy Run, held on New Year’s Day, was ‘another record year’, with over 500 runners taking part in the seven-mile event, starting from Jamaica Inn.
With 504 runners up from 460 at last year’s run in 2016 making the event ‘another record year’, the Brown Willy Run saw Jason Pascoe finish as the first male back, with Eleanor Davis as the first female back, both from Cornwall.
Overall, the runners raised an astounding £2,300 for their chosen charities, beating their £2,000 fundraising total from last year.
Organised by Truro Running Club, the money raised from the event is always split in two ways.
This year, half has been donated to Cornwall Search and Rescue, who provide support on the day, and the other half has been donated to Ellie’s Haven, a small charity based in Looe, who help children with life limiting illnesses and provide support for their families.
Stuart Musson, co-organiser of the event, said: “We are so grateful to all the runners for their donations and really happy to help two amazing charities, both of which make a real difference to so many people in the county.
“This year’s weather was a great improvement on last year, which led to a very smooth event with no major problems, plenty of mud and smiles on the runners. Overall, it was a fantastic event and we can’t wait for next year!”
