IT WAS a yet another fun packed and busy week at St Petroc’s School in Bude before half term.

Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 had a fantastic trip to Restormel Castle which helped the children understand what life must have been like in Medieval times — they thoroughly enjoyed racing around the castle grounds pretending to be Knights and Ladies of the Realm!

On Tuesday the school put on a brilliant display of swimming at Splash in their annual Swimming Gala.

On Friday they defied all weather reports to celebrate the school’s foundation over 100 years ago.

They celebrated St Petroc’s Day in the sunshine with a lovely church service showcasing the beautiful singing of the pupils followed by the traditional row up the canal.

The celebrations continued at school with a delicious lunch which was followed by parents versus pupils rounders and cricket matches. The Friends of St Petroc’s put on a fabulous barbecue with great music from Bradley Cook which rounded off the half term with a real flourish!

Headmaster, Dan Thornburn, said: “St Petroc’s Day was another overwhelming success. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves and I even managed to row my boat in a vaguely straight line this year which was almost as miraculous as the weather holding out for us!

“Celebrating the founding of any school is a special occasion, particularly for St Petroc’s which has such a history and link to Bude and the local community.”
