NOVEMBER saw the closure of the women's section of Camelford branch of Royal British Legion, as they closed on Wednesday, November 13 and handed the books to county secretary Margaret Harris.

Within the same week the Boscastle branch of RBL closed, as reported in last week's Post.

The Camelford branch was opened following a meeting on January 23, 1946. This meeting invited the women of Camelford to join together to assist in the care of the widows and children of ex-servicemen.

It received great support from the meeting and as a result, a committee under the leadership of Madeline Pearse, of Tregoodwell, was formed.

During the following years, the women went on to raise vast amounts of money for the cause. Since 1998, £14,647 has been sent to the national headquarters and £2,943 to Cornwall County. This money has been raised mainly by the branch members and the support they have received from the people of Camelford.
