IT WAS a near glorious day on Sunday, October 6 when the Launceston and Callington annual ploughing match took place at Wiggatin Farm, Canworthy Water.
Due to the recent weather going in some areas was heavy, but it certainly gave many the opportunity of a challenging event.
With 44 entries and three teams from Duchy College YFC together with just the one entry in the horse class, due to injury and illness, it was a stunning sight.
Local man, Anthony Retallick was overall winner with the most points, he also regularly competes both locally and nationally.
It was a student from Duchy College, Jess Dunn, who gained the most points in the YFC class.
The youngest competitor Robbie Northway from Chagford retained his place as Youngest Ploughman from 2018.
He was up against two other young competitors, Tom Sandow and Sam Heard. The aged annual presentation cups that are awarded are testament to the continued support that this pastime achieves.
Andrew Medland the very committed chairman was delighted with the support that the day received from both competitors and the general public.
