There was good weather at last for the annual summer fayre and duck race in Parson's Meadow, Rilla Mill, on Saturday, which was organised by the village hall committee. A model raft race took place with 13 entries from the youngsters, and the judges were Rev Marilyn Elliott and her husband, David. The three best were Chris Palfrey, Aaron Fraser and Harriett Stephens, who each received a prize. The farthest three were Mataeo Pearce, Ned Hopes and Rachel Cottam. Winners of the duck race were: John Savage (Bray Shop, £100), Alistair Lobban (£50), Nathan of the Manor House Inn (£25) and Mrs M Gilbert (£10). Other winners were: Mr K Preston, Peter Astin, K Pols, Leskier Jecht, Daniel Causey, D Barrett, Susan Green, David Elliott, Carol Cottam and Barbara Hordley. The chairman, Ian Jones, thanked everyone for helping in any way and thanked all the duck sponsors and committee members for their hard work and support in aid of the village hall funds. The profit raised will be announced at a later date.
