Residents living at Westcountry Housing's Bulleid Way Sheltered Housing Scheme in Bude celebrated the 25th anniversary of the opening of the estate on Saturday, June 26. The commemoration was marked with the unveiling of a unique replica train station clock – as the estate stands on the former site of Bude Railway Station. A plaque was also put up with the timepiece, all paid for with funds raised from events held on the estate. Watched by the majority of estate residents, the ceremony was performed by Mrs Pamela Butcher, who has lived there for the whole 25 years. Also attending were former residents, Mrs Mabel Elkins and Mrs Emily Boon, who both now live in the Eventide Residential Home in Bude. Amongst other guests were the Bude Mayor, Cllr Peter Moores and Westcountry's Managing Director, Karen Ayling, who both made short speeches. Following the ceremony, guests enjoyed a celebration buffet lunch in the garden, catered for by the Bencoolen Inn. Scheme manager, Rob Maye, said: "The whole day was a great success enjoyed by everyone and we could not have asked for better weather."
