A NUMBER of animals from a rescue sanctuary in Pyworthy have been relocated to Norfolk, after financial difficulties meant the Devon premises was no longer sustainable.

Approximately 35 ponies and horses were amongst the cows, sheep and goats transported the 370 miles from the Quality of Life Animal Sanctuary (QOLAS) to Hillside Animal Sanctuary in the east of the country.

The majority of the animals arrived at their new home in the early hours of Sunday morning, with only the cows to come later this week.

Former owner of QOLAS, Debbie De Ste Croix said whilst she was devastated to lose the animals, she was glad to see them saved from slaughter — the likely outcome if they couldn't be rescued.

The owners of the Pyworthy sanctuary were evicted around six weeks ago, and since then they had been trying to find somewhere for the animals to be relocated.
