IT?IS not every day that a concert involves recorders and a church organ, but on Sunday, July 2, the Cotswold Recorder Group came to St Julitta’s Church, Lanteglos near Camelford.

Part of the attraction for coming all the way from the Cotswolds was to play in an ancient church with outstanding acoustics and to help raise funds for the church restoration project. The recorder group play a range of instruments from the well known descant recorder to the contra bass that can be taller than six feet.

The programme included some early medieval music that might well have been played in the church, which dates back to Norman times. Stephen Tyrell played the organ marvelously, the regular organist for St Julitta’s and one of the pieces was for an unusual combination of recorder and organ, which delighted the packed audience.

The recorder group enjoyed the experience so much that they have suggested a return visit and they will be more than welcome. Everyone agreed that not only was it a fantastic and unusual concert but the church acoustics enhanced the sound in an amazing way.

Strawberries and fizz were served in the interval and £500 was raised towards the Restoration Fund organised by the Friends of Lanteglos Church.
