THE Kernow Jamboree is an incredible scouting event that only takes place every four years, in the Stithians showground, writes Scout Florence Tape (age 12).
The week is jam-packed with activities every day, with evening music and parties every night.
Thousands of scouts from all over the UK and the world including Norway, Kenya, and Ireland - as well as a large presence of Cornish scouts - came together for a week of unforgettable experiences, making memories that will last a lifetime.
Following the impressive opening ceremony, we had a cultural exchange day between scouts from all across the world; for Launceston we presented a traditional “Figgy ‘obbin” pudding and information on the famous Launceston poet - Charles Causley.
My personal favourite off-site activity was ‘Wave’, a day of coasteering, paddle boarding and kayaking. We also had a fantastic day of “Kernopoly”, where you travel around Cornwall on buses and trains visiting different places and taking photos of famous landmarks! Prizes are awarded for the team that “collects” the most properties. Our team managed to travel through most of Cornwall, enjoying pasties in Penzance and ice cream in St Ives.
As well as amazing off-site activities, we also had fabulous on-site activities including: Impact - learning about our impact on the world and being taught about different charities and first aid; Way of the Woods - where we made fires with flint and steels and created natural woodland shelters; Energise - a day of energetic fun with inflatables, zorbing, segways, lasertag, shooting and archery.
These are just some of the activities from an extensive choice. We, as 1st Launceston Scouts, were really proud to represent our section of Scouts and Explorers in this week-long unforgettable adventure.
