THE transformation of Dunheved House, set in the grounds of Launceston College, is almost complete, writes Amelia Chubb.
The college has taken a leap towards the provision of key services in Cornwall and advances in education, as part of its new multi-use building.
The 'Post' received a tour of the state of the art building with Principal Jack Jackson, joined by former chair of governors Nigel Parker and Head of Science Mark Adams.
The project first began four-and-a-half years ago when Mr Jackson started at the college. After two-and-a-half years of campaigning for funding, a number of parties joined together to raise the £2.7 million needed. Primarily the Children's Trust, funded by the European Social Fund; the Combined Universities in Cornwall (CUC) and Launceston College.
"There were lots of ups and downs," said Mr Jackson, "but together we have done something really special."
It is the first CUC facility in North Cornwall and is an addition to the list which comprises the University of Exeter; Plymouth University; University College of Falmouth; Truro and Penwith College; Cornwall College and the Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry.
Already a provider in post-16 education, new vocational facilities allow students to extend real-life experiences on site as part of the college's Further Education courses.
