ON the edge of Bodmin Moor, St Breward Church’s annual ‘Carols by Candlelight’ was bursting with music and singing as the service began with a full house.
Mulled wine, mince pies and the ringing of carols by the village’s handbell ringers greeted more than 100 villagers and visitors as they came to the church to celebrate the arrival of Christmas.
The church’s lights were switched off as the candles were lit and the choir sang the first carol, ‘Once in Royal David’s City’, creating an atmospheric church and service.
Villager Julie Blackburn, the 19-year-old daughter of the church’s regular organist, played the organ for the first time throughout the service with amazing
