DAVIDSTOW church pulled all the stops out to celebrate everything Cornish on Saturday, May 30.

Even on arrival at the church the outside was decorated with Cornish flags.

On entering the church guests were greeted by a Cornish womble and organiser Bill Pearce who was in traditional Cornish tartan kilted suit.

Mr Pearce said: "Mid week we were concerned about the weather and how many would attend but people are continuing to come through the door."

As the event got underway a passer by called Karl commented on Mr Pearce's attire as "Proper 'ansome."

Towards the back of the church tables were in place for the first part of the evening, which was a traditional Cornish cream tea. This included pasties followed by a cream tea, a piece of saffron cake and a bowl of junket washed down with a cup of tea. This was served in teacups for that extra special touch.

Nancy Handley, cream tea participant, said: "The food was absolutely excellent done by all the local ladies."

A raffle was held where people could choose from a variety of goods donated by local businesses.

Throughout the church Cornish flags could be seen along with a big Cornish peninsula poster towards the front of the church, which was also the backdrop for the Press Gang Singers who took to the stage at 7pm.

Pauline Martin said: "I have seen these singers before at Mr Pearce's 80th. Obviously we are here to support them and the family at this event."
