MORE than 60 images were submitted to the ‘Photographic Competition and Exhibition’, organised by Holsworthy Rotary Club and Torridge District councillor Ian Parker, which was held on Wednesday, September 26, and saw the Memorial Hall filled with exciting and creative images.
The theme for the competition had been ‘Work, rest or play’ and people certainly got inventive with the title, producing images of a whole range of subjects.
There were three categories to enter; junior, intermediate and adult. The event was kindly sponsored by local firms and really had a community feel as people came together to show off their photography skills.
Rotary Club president Margaret Benjafield said: “The Rotary Club was delighted by the entries received, the high quality of the images in all categories, and the clever interpretation of the theme.
“It was our first photographic competition and we are already talking about another next year, when, hopefully, we can encourage even more entries.
“Our thanks are due to everyone who took the trouble to take part, it was a shame there could only be three winning pictures in each category, also to Rodney Parrish and Dawn Bewes for their support and encouragement, and to the local businesses who together sponsored the event and enabled us to award such generous prizes.”
The judges had some tough decisions to make but were able to whittle it down to first, second and third in each category — after much deliberation.
In the junior section, for ages 12 years and under first prize was awarded to Jamie Tappin, second also went to Jamie and third to Hazel Durant.
In the intermediate category for those aged 13 to 16, Finnegan Putman won first prize, with Naomi Cole in second and Emma Handley in third.
Finally in the adult section Michelle Walters shone winning both first and second prize, closely followed by David Smith in first.
There was a special prize for the winner of the extra sponsors section held by Mole Valley Farmers’ (MVF) and the winner, who received gift vouchers for MVF was Naomi.
