LAUNCESTON Tennis Club go into 2009 with a coaching programme ready to expand with more players, and with more players we will have better players, writes James Brobin.

Competitions will be in place at the club for all ages and levels of play.

One competition that may interest many 14 and under potential tennis players is 'The Road to Wimbledon' where all club winning boys and girls go to the second phase of the competition, the county finals. The county winners progress to the national finals held at Wimbledon in August.

All at Launceston Tennis Club are pleased to announce that we are one of the host clubs for this prestigious event. The club phase will be held over the Easter break with dates to be soon announced and entry is club members only and membership from £10 is a real give away for a year's worth of tennis.

May half term will see the turn of the 18 and under players with the matchplay cup for three days. Boys and girls with a LTA rating will gain entry and entry forms will be available in March. This is a LTA sanctioned grade four tournament advertised nationwide via the LTA so it is hoped many local players will give it a go.

The competition is looking for a sponsor as many costs are involved such as a referee for three days and programmes, in return we can advertise your business in the programme or even include your name in the competition title and cups.

The competition will be like football's world cup where all competitors start on day one in a round robin format, day two and three will see the knockout phase where winners will emerge.

Anyone who wants to take part in these competitions or any business that would like to support us, please contact James Brobin on 07881 583971.
