DEMOLITION is well underway at the old market site in Holsworthy.
Roofs are being taken off and sheds ripped out at Underlane, ahead of developments of housing and a supermarket.
Cavanna Homes started clearing the lower site this month to make way for 91 homes. The development comprises two/three bedroom properties and some four-bed open market houses and coincides with the celebration of Cavanna Homes' 91st anniversary.
The company also plans to introduce some wicker animals to reflect the livestock market history.
A spokesperson for Cavanna Homes said: "The homes on the front of the site will be built first and the opening of the show home is due in July 2015. It is expected that the build programme will be a four-year period."
Tesco now owns the upper part of the market. A spokesperson said: "We recently took ownership of the site at Holsworthy and are in close discussions with the council about our plans to develop it. We will update the community as soon as we have more information."
