THE meeting of Camelford Town Council was given an update on the air quality matters, by Cllr Claire Hewlett, writes Rosie Cripps.

Cllr Hewlett explained that the Camelford Clean Air Group recently sent an invite to Cornwall Councillors to visit Camelford ‘to see for themselves, the lovely road we have’. She told her peers that this is expected to take place on a date in September.

Cllr Hewlett also mentioned new support from the Camelford branch of the Women’s Institute. She said: “The WI, Camelford branch, have agreed to put air quality forward to the federation, so if we can get the WI on board, that’s great.”

She also went on to say that she has been in contact with a local business owner, whose business located in within one of the worst affected areas in the town.

She said: “He contacted councillors with concerns for his employees, working ten hours a day, and was told that something could only be done for residential occupancy, not business occupancy.

“That’s basically where we are with air quality at the moment.”

It is expected this will be discussed further at the upcoming Camelford Clean Air Group meeting, to be held in the Old Bank soon.
