BUDE started the summer league having just gained promotion to the First Division, their opening match was against the well established Titans Neptune, one of three Titans teams within the First Division.

The game started with the Jets fronting a totally new line up and it took a few minutes to get into the game and by the end of the first quarter were trailing 7 goals to 3. If they thought the first quarter was tough the Jets hadn't anticipated just how hard life in the first division may be as the Titans showed their experience to dominate the game.

The Jets attack of Kelly Swatton, Helen Newton and Steph Dinshaw upped their game and converted the few chances that came their way but this didn't seam to make much difference as by half time the Titans had increased their lead to 19-9.

The Jets worked hard to get promotion and were well used to having to fight their way through games and felt they would need to do this if they were going to make a match out of it. Into the third quarter and led by the defence of Kirsty Dawe, Vicky Innes and Aimee Old they began to do this and using impressive defence work they restricted the Titans to only 6 goals whilst the attack continued to take their chances to take them to 25-18 by the end of the quarter.

An enforced change meant that Aimee departed with a injured ankle and in came Nicola Worth who had to play out of position in wing defence. The change disrupted the Jets momentum and although the hard work and effort was continued by all especially Carrie Short in centre the comeback was not impossible and the Titans finished the Jets off 34 -24.

There were a lot of positives for the Jets to take with them into the next match but most importantly they will need those players that helped them gain promotion and that were absent to come back and help strengthen their squad to cover any further injuries and to make a concerted effort in trying to remain in the first division.

Our best wishes go to Aimee who will now be out of action for some time having later been diagnosed with a fractured ankle. Player of the match was Vicky Innes.
