IF an application for affordable housing on the site of a 100-year-old derelict building in Launceston gets the go-ahead, building work will be tackled with care for the environment and wildlife, writes Natalie Venning.

Cornwall Council has received a planning application for 15 affordable homes at Broomhill on Tavistock Road. The building has been owned by Westcountry Housing (Westward Housing Group) for the past 20 years. Four years ago, when the lease was given up, Westward closed the house and sought new tenants.

In July 2008, planning permission was granted to renovate the house into seven affordable flats, and four affordable new build homes.
