A CORNWALL Councillor is gearing up to run the London Marathon this weekend.
Adam Paynter, Liberal Democrat ward member for Launceston North and North Petherwin, and deputy leader of Cornwall Council, held a fundraising event at the Countryman Inn on Wednesday, April 13.
He is running the marathon to help raise money for the Robert Johns Leukaemia Fund.
Robert Johns died in 1983 after a long fought battle with leukaemia and his father, Bob Johns, from Week St Mary, set up the charity along with the other trustees Hazel Cartright and the late Roy Cobbledick.
Last week Cllr Paynter gave information on the charity, invited donations, and gave a talk on his plans for running the marathon.
The bucket collection raised £149.95 and Cllr Paynter raised a further £150 from sponsorship.
There was a raffle for a meal for two and a bottle of wine, worth £30, which was won by Julian Gillbard.
The Countryman Inn donated a third of the prize with Mr Johns contributing the rest of the cost for the winning prize.
