TWELVE members of the Bude Blend Youth Collective recently embarked on ‘Mission 4’ as part of their Acts of Kindness initiative.
Twelve young ‘blenders’, along with three adults, met outside Habasca and were briefed on their mission. They then ventured over to Eventide Care Home on Downs View, Bude, and waited for their guests. One by one, six residents in wheelchairs and two more able bodied appeared through the door to be accompanied by the blenders to the Bude at War event, taking place at Crooklets beach at the weekend.
The young people were able to evoke conversation of memories from the days of the Second World War, with the residents being given the chance to see, feel and experience those memories coming back to them as the events unfolded.
The residents were ‘astounded by the youngsters’ interest, kindness and gentleness’.
The group walked to the beach, looked out to sea and gazed at the crowds, the effort and the passion put into the incredible event.
They listened to, jigged, danced and clapped along to music and entertainment from Bude Metric Brass Band, and then everyone enjoyed an ice cream.
A spokesperson for the group said: “It was astounding to watch our group of young and old, who’d never met before, become united as one — a group and a team!”
