THE Big Up Bude Talent contest is due to take place this Saturday, April 23, and will showcase local talent of all ages from the Bude area.

Bude’s Got Talent will include a variety of talented local musicians, singers, comedians, writers, and more, and the funds raised from the event will go towards supporting Bude Sea Pool, which provides a safe swimming area for members of the Bude community.

One of the contestants for Bude’s Got Talent is 40 year old poet, Helen Minazza, from Bude.

Helen has been writing poetry since the mere age of 16, inspired by a book illustrating a young girl’s desire to impress her English teacher through writing poetry.

She was born in Cyprus, due to her father being in the army, but later settled in Bude when she was 15. She attended Budehaven School and later went on to Cambourne College to study Performing Arts.

Helen has been writing stories since she was a young girl, and poetry became an extension of her passion for writing.

“If you haven’t tried writing poetry, my advice would be to just give it a go. It doesn’t have to rhyme or follow any rules – just write what is in your heart.”

Helen has never had any formal poetry lessons, but has still managed to release two of her own books. A Little Bit of Everything and A Little Bit of Light and Dark are available to buy from the Coffee Pot Café, Spencer Thorn bookshop and Stratton Stores, and also from Amazon.

Two more contestants have also been confirmed for this year’s Bude’s Got Talent contest, Louis McCausland and Ed Kendrick, two young musicians from Bude.

Louis and Ed, aged 13, have both been involved in music for a number of years, and play a variety of instruments between them, including guitar, bass and drums. The duo thrive on performing to local crowds, and are often invited to play at local events, such as BAAMfest.

Bude’s Got Talent will take place on Saturday, April 23, at Budehaven School from 7pm, with tickets still available to buy from Seventh Wave Gallery for £5.
