ASHWATER Church opened its doors, literally, recently for a ‘Children’s Activity Afternoon’.

The sun shone down over the 30 local children who all enjoyed a wealth of activities including, pottery tile decorating, charcoal sketching, ice cream sundae making, a photo scavenger hunt and a medieval tent with authentic furnishings, artefacts and knights and ladies dressed in period costume.

Helen Bone, organiser of the event, said: “It was wonderful to see the children discover some of the historical facts and engaged with the art based activities around the church in such a fun yet informative way.

“I would like to thank everyone who supported this event and helped to make it such a success.”

The church of St Peter Ad Vincula has also recently been fortunate enough to be the recipient of a Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) grant, which has enabled the Parochial Church Council (PCC) to carry out some much needed repairs to this important, listed building.

Under the HLF’s grants for places of worship scheme the church’s tower and valley gutter are receiving funding from the HLF, which will be used to preserve the Grade I listed building for future generations.

To raise awareness of the rich heritage that exists both in and around the church the PCC, supported by HLF, will be holding a series of exciting activities over the coming years in Ashwater like the most recent children’s activity afternoon.
