LAUNCESTON College’s Year 7 students have been taking part in their residential experience at the Dartmoor training centre.

Hepworth students left on Monday morning for their two and a half days.

After introductions and the expectations explained, all of the students tried four tasks to help them to work as a team and to safely participate in the journey the following day.

After a meal and all the preparations and planning completed everyone was in bed and most of them sleeping by 10pm. The following day after, a hearty breakfast the four groups went off on their adventure. It was fantastic weather and all students had completed the task by 4.40pm. Mr Rush’s group actually broke the record for being the fastest team to do the task.

Julie Nettle, head of Hepworth, said: “All students had tried new experiences, many outside of their comfort zone, and they all had to work as a team in order for it to be successful. Whether it was traversing the water, a sustained walk on Dartmoor, working as a team or preparing food, to name a few tasks, they all participated and did their best.

“This was one of the most successful Hepworth residential experiences and it was noted that they did the tasks effectively and without wasting any time. They also had excellent support from their leaders and assistants in each team.

“Particular mention should be given to the two House captains George and Amelia, who showed how such an experience gives confidence and opens many doors in the future, and they played a very important role in this residential.

Every student was so proud of all that they had achieved but none were more proud than myself as head of Hepworth.

“Congratulations to you all, now let’s see this experience reflecting in your studies at college.”
