AN action group met to discuss what is viewed as one of Cornwall’s most dangerous black-spots for traffic collisions last week.

The Plusha Junction Action Group met on Tuesday, January 17, with a Highways England representative to discuss the junction at Plusha, where the B3257 joins the A30.

Conservative Cornwall Councillor for Altarnun Vivian Hall, who chairs the action group, said: “It is essential that we achieve a split-level junction. Safety should be paramount; the present arrangements will not do and what exists is just not viable in the long-term.

“This meeting has been about arguing for a fresh look by Highways England for road improvements. Ultimately, we need an underpass or bridge.”

Cllr Hall added that he had written to the new secretary of state for transport, Chris Grayling MP, and Jim O’Sullivan, chief executive of Highways England, about the matter, which he said must be given the highest priority.

“I know Scott Mann MP is also most keen to advance our cause and upgrade this junction,” Cllr Hall added.

A spokesperson for Highways England said: “Highways England is always committed to listening to the views of local community representatives.

“On Tuesday [January 17] we attended a meeting with local parish and county council representatives to hear their views on issues around the A30 Plusha junction. These will be taken into consideration in any emerging plans for the area in the future.”
