BUDE Rubbish Action Group (BRAG) completed their first official clean around the town recently.

Organised by Paul Bicky Crum and Laila Parker Crum, as part of the town’s latest green initiative A Greener Bude, headed by Deb Rosser, BRAG was set up to tackle the town’s inland litter and rubbish, reducing the chances it will end up in the nearby rivers and beaches and contributing to the overall environmental pollution problem.

As the sun shone on Saturday, April 21, 18 willing volunteers took to the streets, pathways and alleys of Bude to rid the inland town of rubbish and litter floating about. With drinks donated by Affordable Foods Holsworthy to keep the team going throughout the day, an incredible 75kg of litter was collected by the end of the clean, which was then collected by Biffa.

Starting at Splash car park in Bude, the team made their way through the nearby estate and carried on down a lane to finish at Bude Junior School.

Organiser Paul said: “It was a great first litter pick. We will be running them once monthly at litter hotspots throughout town.”

In addition to the drinks donated by Affordable Foods Holsworthy, the group’s litter sticks were donated by Blind Pig Media, and hi-vis vests were provided by Awb Textiles. Paul added: “It was brilliant that local businesses helped us get up and running!”
