A HARVEST festival thanksgiving service took place at Tremail Chapel on Sunday, September 25, writes Helen Pusey.

Inside the chapel was a beautiful display in each sunny window of fresh fruit, vegetables and flowers, perfectly placed with all the abundance of autumnal colour.

This was a real treat to see, along with the tradition of produce being auctioned off the following day.

It was a time to reflect perhaps on younger days when we were given a few coppers to bid for an item and feel rather grown up at our first auction, while at church.

It was also a moment to count blessings for even the smallest thing we do have and often forget or take for granted.

Lorna Heard said: “The turnout was not too bad at all and it was nice that Davidstow Church joined with us.”

Mrs Heard went on to say that nowadays there are not so many harvest festivals and if so, they are usually a display of tinned foods that can be used after for the food banks, which some have come to rely on during these hard times of austerity.

Despite fewer chapels, Tremail Chapel continues to hold its services with a regular committed congregation.
