FIVE emaciated ponies have been seized under the Animal welfare Act from Davidstow Airfield and brought to the attention of South West Equine Protection (SWEP).
The ponies are all female and varying in age from a yearling to about five years old. It is thought that the three older ponies are pregnant.
A spokesperson for SWEP said: "This will certainly put a further strain on their weak bodies and could possibly cause problems in the growth of the developing foals and during the birthing process. Fortunately, thanks to the monitoring process and sharp eyes of Cornwall's DEFRA vets, Bodmin Commoners' Livestock Protection Officer and the RSPCA these ponies are now safe and currently being cared for by South West Equine Protection."
