POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a multi-vehicle collision left a man with a serious head injury last night (Tuesday).

Police said three vehicles were involved in the incident, which happened just before 9pm on the westbound carriageway of the A30 at Pennygillam.

A 36-year-old man from St Austell, the driver of a Saab, sustained serious injuries. He was taken to Derriford Hospital by ambulance, where police said he remains with serious head and pelvic injuries. Police said occupants of the other two cars involved — a black Ford Fiesta from Lifton and BMW X1 from Bude — did not have serious injuries.

The road was closed for seven and a half hours for the road to be cleared and for officers from the Serious Collisions Investigation Unit (SCIU) to carry out a forensic examination of the scene.

Fire crews from Launceston and Bodmin Community Fire Stations, including a rescue tender, plus a wholetime officer, also attended the scene.

They released a trapped casualty and remained on scene to make the vehicles and scene safe.

Officers from Bodmin SCIU are keen to speak to any witnesses to the collision who have not yet come forward, and anyone who saw the vehicles travelling on the A30 prior to the incident — anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 or email [email protected] quoting log reference 631 of January 26.
