HALWILL was filled with festive cheer as a few of the village’s posts were adorned with knitted items to promote the WI’s Christmas stall.
Some members of Halwill WI, including Ann Goodspeed, Tina Cleaver and Joyce Dean, decided to create knitted hats and scarves to adorn some of the posts around the village.
The aim was to make the posts look like carol singers and promote the WI’s stall at the Christmas Market held on Saturday, December 12, in the village hall.
Ten of the posts, outside the shops and pub, were adorned with festive knitted items.
The idea came at the WI’s November meeting where members thought it would be a nice way to promote their stall and spread a bit of cheer in the village.
But they did not expect the reception the knitted items received.
WI member Ann Goodspeed said: “No one was aware to begin with that we had created the knitted hats.
“People were commenting on Facebook how lovely they were and how nice it was to see on the school run in the morning. We didn’t announce our involvement until a few days later with a post on Facebook.
“We had only intended to leave them up for a few days but after such a lovely reception we have decided to leave them there over Christmas — although they will all be soaking wet by now.”
There were a few extra hats and items left over to sell at their Christmas stall and after the WI’s successful ‘yarnbomb’ the village is now looking to whether it could do something similarly festive next year.
