IT WAS an exciting weekend in Marhamchurch with the Bullers Arms beer festival, Haven Art and Craft exhibition and culminating on Easter Monday with the first food fair in the village.

The village teamed with people on the Monday who enjoyed cookery demonstrations by Dave from Sargies Cornish Kitchen and Dan from Beach House Wet Fish. The food stalls did a brisk trade offering pancakes, cream teas, pies and pasties, cheeses, jams and pickles together with Jacky’s celebrated cakes.

Children scoured the village in search of Easter bunnies while parents enjoyed a pig roast and a pint at the Bullers, having taken in the art and craft displays.

Entries from all age groups were submitted for the bake off competition, and they were of outstanding quality and design, the best receiving their prizes from chief judge, Jacky.

Organisers estimate upwards of 400 people enjoyed Easter Monday in the village and £750 was raised to support the relocation and expansion plans for the village shop. Planning permission has been granted to build a permanent shop on the site of the toilet block in the centre of the village, but significant donations and grants are still needed before it can become a reality.

An important contributor to the success of the weekend was the collaboration between each of the groups within the village, which made it an Easter to remember.
