THE 60th Ashwater Agricultural Show took place on Saturday, August 20. This show was started in September 1948, not as reported in a recent issue of the 'Post'.

The show was started by three Ashwater men having a friendly argument over who had the best beef animal. They were Mr Sam Brock, Mr Henry Spry and the landlord of the Manor Inn, Mr Jim Rippon. The show took place in the then Market Field opposite the Manor Inn — which is sadly no longer there —and moved to its present site a few years' later.

This year's Presidents were Mr Rodney Brock grandson of Sam Brock and Mrs Ruth Carroll granddaughter of Henry Spry — the founder members.
