A WELL attended coffee evening was held in the Coronation Hall, St Giles on Friday, May 30. The evening also included entertainment by the Homeleigh Singers and was compered by Janet Barriball, whose wit and humour had everyone laughing. The event was organised to raise funds for building work on the community shop premises. The sum of £461 was raised. A vote of thanks was given by Ken Hamlyn, chairman of the shop committee, to all those who gave and helped. The event was also used to promote the upgrading of the post office to a Post Office Local, which opened on May 28. The upgrade will allow the post office to offer more services to the community. For the full report, and a round-up of the area news and sport, see this week's edition of the Post.
